I wonder if you could answer a question about the AYC ? My AYC light came on last week on my 5 when we were on our way back from hol. I had the unit checked out - the guy replaced the oil and re-bled the system - The light, while the car was at the garage went out and stayed out after first starting the car. He said to me that it may be a slight fault with the pressure switch - If it happens again he said that he could replace the switch with an aftermarket one as the stock one is part of the AYC which is £1800 to replace!!! . May it be the switch that was the problem and if it does happen again can it be done as the guy told me?
Dont quote me on this because it is a complex unit that does very little in my opinion but..........
Changing the fluid will do very little a bit like changing gear oil every 4500k(you dont feel any benifit), if any problems occur i would say its in the pressured side of the system meaning switch/pump which is all there is, so for the light to be flickering/on i would presume its more than likely to be the switch as thats a more 'wearing part' than the pump.

Cheers mate - I'll have to keep an eye on it. Upto now the AYC light not come back on whilst driving. :-)

the ayc bleeding is b0ll0x. its not necessary, just the fluid change that the clutch packs sit in needs doing to keep it clean and stop the grinding noises.

if the ayc light is coming on its probably cos the pump has not accumulated pressure in the time it wants to. so an adjustable switch means you can alter the cut off pressure for the pump, but ultimately the pump is on its last legs, so the switch just gets you by.

So what we were reading a while ago on another forum maybe true.

The guys overseas have found another way to bleed the ayc without a mutII tool. Neil and I have not said anything as we don't want to be responsible for someones ayc unit fooking up.

the ayc can be manually bled no problem.

btw, your arc light will more likely come on in hot weather.

yes and no........

the bleeding is unecessary, so yes they are robbing peeps IMO.

but the mutII/III makes is 10 times easier to bleed....

How much would I be looking at if the pump does eventually need replacing?

i'd say 350-500 for a s/h pump, an 1-2 hours labour depending on how well the pipes come off
