Killed my car today :(

Took it to a track day at Snetterton and after about 15 minutes it let go :???: :???: :???:

Basically it dropped to 3 cylinders and shat a load of oil all over the engine bay, so I am guessing the piston(s) have let go.

So as I am not made of money I have started researching the next step, and putting E6/7/8 pistons in seems to be a good compromise, and I was wondering what first hand experiance people might have of this for the early EVO engines.

And once uprated what sort of boost can be used with saftey to get the most out of the good old TD05

Lastly, what would seem to be the market value for a set of pistons and rods ( mileage depending of course )?

Many thanks, and heres to many hours spent in the garage.....................again

Sorry to hear mate
Any idea why the piston let go? Were you running particularly high boost?

Sorry to hear that mate Speak to pete aka petbeemer. He can point you in the right direction as to where to go piston wise. Evo 6/7 pistons are good for the evo 3 but for an extra £100-200 you might be able to get some forged pistons that can take 400bhp. To me this would make sense being as the engine has to come apart and dont want to have to do the job again. At least you will then be able to run 350bhp with ease and even upgrade further in the future without the worry of the internals. I hope you are able to get it sorted soon mate.

It was set up at 1bar, but I suspect it may have been creeping to 1.1 - 1.2

My II creeps to 1-1.1 bar but i understand its within safe limits for a II. For some reason they made the III's with weaker pistons

Gutted for you mate.

Give The Tyrant (mlr, i think Ian is on here aswell) a pm he has just built a really 8) stroker.

He does some really nice gaskets out of 1.5mm stainless steel at reasonable prices.

Hope you are back on the road soon
