PSP volume ?

Anyone help me with a PSP question ?

I have recorded a few DVD movies onto a memory stick using XOOM and other software.

Trouble is, the volume is poor even on headphones. Someone has told me Sony put a volume limit on it to avoid expensive ligigation and there is a way to remove it. I have seen sellers on Ebay offering to tell you how to do it - is it just turn off the AVLS ( ? ) or can there more to it ?

Flying to the USA in the summer and need something to drown out the sound of the engines (and her indoors) whining.
