wireless broadband..... how?

I'd like to be able to take my laptop with me around the house/garden sometimes, but don't know how to go about making one of those wireless thingy bobs...................... anyone help please, what do I need? ops: :???:


I have a wired broadband modem.

Cahp,

You will need a wireles enabled laptop amd a wireless modem/router.

One of these.

And you need a card like this if your laptop doesn't have it built in.

Then a bit of patience to set it all up.

(oh i've not forgotten that pump guide either, i'll try to get it posted tonight)

I've looked in my device manger & I have a "Lan-Express AS IEEE 802.11g mini PCI Adaptor"

There a couple of standards for wireless, guessing at your thing from the device manager you need a wireless router that does 802.11g.

The one i linked to has g listed so should be fine.

The one you've got mentions b, which maybe fine (i think it's similar just a bit slower), but i've never set one up myself, i don't think it too hard though.

That should be fine, but looking at them you'll need to plug your broaband modem into the router, does your connection have a RG45 network plug on it or is it USB?

A combined router and broadband modem would be a tidier option if youre using a USB broadband modem...
