Brittish gas...

On monday the gas meter give up so my mother phones the emergency line
and they said all engineers are really busy but you are on top of the list due to being disabled.
I returned home about 9.15 and a chap is changing the meter which i thought was good as
i was't expecting anyone coming out at that time so he put a new meter and £10.

The chap gave us a new card to put money on that but it would'nt expect any money so we had to let
the gas run out till we were allowed to have someone come and sort it out but we waited over 24 hrs
for someone to come here and do something that took less than five minutes...

Never mind i've let it all out now.. :muhaha: :muhaha:

That's the norm for ultility suppliers Daz.

Remember I used to work for Scottish Power ( 8yrs) and have delt with numerous problems with prepay meters, and you have been lucky so far mate with them coming out to you the first time.

British gas only have a certain amount of slots for call outs every day, I expect that they were full last nisght that's why they haven't been to yours. It's not like the electricity side of things where they have a complete shift system working 247. The engineer has probably given you the key/card that hasn't been calibrated to your mums gas meter, that's why you can't put more money in the meter. The key/card needs to be programmed before it gets sent out and then it needs to be programmed in the meter prior to getting credit on it.

The priorities for call out are kids under the age of 3, elderly people (over 65) and also people who are dependant medical aids.

Briggsy - PM me with the full story mate as I can get all the details in front of a very senior manager (and I mean board of directors level) at British Gas.
