That soldier
I could get well cooked here but I'm really struggling with something here!
That american soldier who shot the Iraqi! Everybody appears to be slating him and sticking the boot in but this is a war isn't it? I believe the guy has been withdrawn from active duty too! Had it been the Iraqi finding the yank would he have shot him??? Bloody right he would! And after the much publisised execution of Western workers! I'm not questioning the Legitimacy of the war itself but the treatment of the guys who are ordered to fight it! Rightly or wrongly! What is the world coming too?? |

War isn't as black and white as you would think..
There are rules of engagement..

Very difficult topic this mates! I tend to agree with Whoosh on this one though. In the heat of war things look different I bet?

Thing is though, If the guy was pretending to be dead. Whats to say he wasnt loaded with explosives or something?

yeh mate, I think the problem here is that there was a US news channel crew with them and it didnt play out or look to good on film.
Its very hard for people to judge when you havent been in such a combat situation, very easy to sit at home and judge things, I guess the guy over reacted a bit, but thats understandable because they have been rigging dead bodies with wires and explosives, and as you hear on the news 2 usa soldiers have died as they have attempted to move apparently dead iraqi fighters. Personnally id have been a little more hesitant especially with the news crew there, and even if he did believe the guy was rigged with explosives then shooting him wasnt going to be the best course of action, a hasty retreat id have thought would have been better. Another thing we have to remember, marines, and infantry, lets be honest these lads are not always the brightest cards in the pack, and you only join one of the above these days if your struggling for better options. i.e put a 18 year old in a war zone with a semi automatic weapon scare the shit out of him for 5 days, let him see his mates getting shot and blown up, and I guess then you've got a pretty live wire on your hands

must be very hard to not shoot at people till ur shot at
a mate of mine is in army and he spent two 6 month periods patrolling on the streets of kosovo on the back of a jeep and if they saw someone running at them with a gun they couldnt open fire till the oter guy or group shot first how harsh would that be to get killed cause u cant shoot first then he was in afganistan (spelling) and this time he wasnt so lucky as he was running for cover and a bullet went rigth up is back as he was bending over (running for cover) and came out is shoulder nearly killed him (luckily hes fully recovered now) but i think alot of the guys in the services are expected to act like policemen etc to much when they are actually in a war zone |

It would have been better to shoot the news crew.
What the fuck are a news crew doing in the middle of a battle anyway ? Whats done in battle should stay in battle, thats what i say. Flame me if you wish ! |
