Don't fire plz!! running costs question

hello,

I'v read the "ultimate evo buyer guide" but I still have questions about the running cost on my "soon to be mine" EVO VI TME.
Are they that high? Considering I do the normal running operations myself on my supra (oil, filters, timing belt)
What are the operations you need to do at your local dealer?

Hi,

Well the Gayc really needs doing with a MutII, there are other ways but not practical unless you have the car up on a four poster ramp

thanks pal but this is not an introduction (I've already done it!!) but a semi-technical, noob typical question, though I haven't found a precise answer yet.

The car needs servicing every 4,500 miles, thats the biggest expense really apart from the Optimax of course :muhaha: but not as bad if you get it done at an independant mitsii specialist instead of a main dealer.....you will be looking anywhere between £140 - £160 for this service, all fluids and regular safety checks are carried out on this. At a main dealers this service is just under £300

The cambelt service should be done at 45K or 60 months whichever comes first you are looking at anywhere between £300 -£600 for this one depending on where you go and what they do within the service, whether its just belts or the idlers/ tensioner.

As Whoosh has stated you will need the AYC to be bled using a MUT II (Mitsubishi diagnostic tool) this is used for running the pumps, you need to shop around as there are only a few non mitsubishi garages that have one, but it is necessary for bleeding the ayc on a service.

But if you are used to running the Supra you'll be used to the servicing being a lot less and you'll feel like you are servicing her all the time :muhaha: Must admit though they are well worth it

Hope this helps, give us a shout if you need to know anything else Good luck with the hunt

Optimax ---> what is-it? oil? I always use Castrol RS on my cars.

what exactly has to be done every 4500 miles?

so the MUTII is only needed for the AYC? when do you have to ckeck it?

it seems to need less servicing than my MKIII, for I service it every 3106 miles as a basis (motor oil, motor oil filter, air filter), gear and lsd do not need it so often. do you agree?

Just noticed you are based in France, things might be a bit different over there

Optimax is our 98ron fuel we have over here in the UK, not sure what you have available over there.....As for the MUT II the AYC should be done evry 4, 500 miles, so basically with every service

Castrol RS oil should be fine there are some guys on here who use that too

Upon a standard 4,500 mile service the following is done........ engine oil, oil filter, ayc, gearbox, rear diff and transfer box fluids ..........

Optimax is fuel, 98RON and the closest pump fuel we can to the 100RON used in japan.

If you have a look at the Running/servicing costs the buyers guide (about page 64) the service schedule is listed there. Evo's aren't too hard to work on, although the 4wd drive train is quite complex. If you use the car hard then it uses consumables (brake pads, discs, tyres, clutches etc.)

The mitsubish advice is to change the AYC fluid every 4,500 miles, although that is probably playing very safe.

engine oil, oil filter, gearbox, rear diff and transfer box fluids ----> I can do it myself, it's ok (and i've got very good prices on oil)

AYC---> how much does it cost to have it check?
