Replacing Front Seat Bolsters On An Evoloution IV

Tools Needed:-

14mm socket / Rachet

Alan Key

Flat Head Screw Driver

Estimated Time:-

2 Hours

Part Details / Orders For Bolsters:-

http://www.capitalseating.co.uk/prod...&appid=59&rid=

Thanks to EvoBjorn For the ordering information 8)

Ok the fun begins! When you receive your nice new Bolsters they will look like this

In this Guide I will try my best to show you how to:-

1. Remove Front Seats

2. Take apart seats and how to re-insert New Bolsters and get rid of the smelly old ones!

In my case i replaced all 4 bolters cause they all seen better days

Ok lets start

First Slide the Seat (s) to the forward Position

Which will uncover the rear bolts holding the seat in from the rear

Now with the 14mm Socket / Rachet Undo these Bolts and put them somewhere safe.

Now Slide the seat into the back position and you will see another 2 bolts to release the front of the seats, Now with the 14mm Socket / Rachet Undo these Bolts and put them somewhere safe.

Also please note if you are doing the drivers seat take note to undo this plug!!!!!

So you should be left with something like this when you take the plug out and remove the seat

At this point i took my seat(s) in my room as not to scrape the seats outside when working on them

Now flip the seat on its side and take off the runner if you are doing one side or both runners if you are doing both sides on one seat.

Remove the runners by these bolts with your alan key

Once thats done you should have a seat looking like this (also on the driver's seat there is an additional plate that needs to be removed)

Now this is the tricky bit, unhook the bar from under each metal clip with your flat head screw driver (circled) and also take off the strips of plastic fom the front and the back of the seat (outlined) *these strips do take a bit of force to get off*

There is also a bar on the inside of the seat holding the cover on with 3 metal clips as well which need to be taken off in the same way as the ouside ones.

now slowley and gently peal off as much is a possible of the bolster covering to uncover the old broken down / old bolster. Pull the old bolster out, and you will be left with the bolster frame

Now slide the new bolster(s) in to place. This is the part that takes the most time and is very fiddley getting the bolster(s) in place but keep with it :-) and you will have something that looks like this 8)

Now pull the cover back over the new bolsters (carefully so not to tear the material) and rehook the bar on the inside of the bolster (3 metal hooks) and the bar on the outside of the bolster to stretch the material back tight, and refit the plastic strips to hold the seat back down tight again. Refit the runners the same way they came off. And put you nice new looking seats back into you car in reverse to the way they came out.

Stand back and admire your new looking seats and have a laff to yourself about not being ripped of by an upholsterer JOB DONE

Chris :P

If you unsure about anything i have tryed to explain drop me a pm and ill try and help.

Ps: Also get a hoover out after you have competed your seat(s) as my room was full of old foam

the material as in the cloth / swade that covers the bolter has a hole in it? if its not to much of a big whole say bigger than a tear of a few mm then id try and get it stiched up properely somewhere, but if its a fairly big hole then id probably try a scrapyard - ebay to see if anyone is selling any writen off cars with broken bolsters after all its only the material your after so they cant charge you that much

heres a couple i found on ebay that are breaking parts etc

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Evolution-part...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mitsubishi-evo...QQcmdZViewItem

on the other hand there is this company that someone else has posted up before

http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/used%20parts.htm

hope this helps

chris :-)
