Guide to Replacing Fuel Pump in a Mitsubishi Evolution VII
First of all disconnect the battery, you don’t want any sparks while you’re working in the fuel tank, work in good light and avoid using power tools. Have some cloth nearby to soak up the petrol drips, and make sure the area is well ventilated. Keep everything as clean as you can to avoid getting any debris in the tank. Be careful.
Lift out the back seat base. It is held in by two clips at the front. There is a small black loop at the front of each clip that just sticks out from under the base. Release the clips and lift the seat forward, up and out.

Remove the four screws holding the plate over the pump. It’s on the left (passenger) side of the car. This reveals the top of the pump assembly.

Squeeze and remove the power line to the pump, then remove the fuel delivery and return lines by squeezing the connectors and sliding off, then use some long nose pliers to release the hose clip on the vent line and slide it back off the connector.

Next you need to remove the six 8mm nuts and get the retaining ring out. It’s a bit of tight fit, but if you make sure the loose fuel and power connectors are out of the way it will come over the hose barbs and out. Then you can lift the pump assembly out, taking care not to damage the tank level sensor.

Now you have the assembly out, dry off any fuel. Then unclip the base of the assembly and disconnect the power from the top of the pump.

It should then come apart. Fit the new filter on the base of the new pump, making sure you secure it with the retaining clip.

Connect the power to the new pump, take the compression ring from the old pump (white ring below) and push the new pump into the assembly, fit the anti-vibration base and clip the assembly back together.

Then you need to reverse the process to get the pump back in the tank. Drop the pump in, fit the retaining ring (it will only fit in one orientation), and reconnect the lines (till they click) and power.

Put the cover back on and give the car a few minutes for and vapours to clear, then reconnect the battery and you should be done.
