Evo 1 Alternator belt.

Could someone answer my questions please.

Ok heres the scene. Im not very mechanically minded and im going by what the mechanic and my mate has told me.

My car is in the garage getting some work done, but whilst in there the alternator belt snapped.
The mechanic replaced this but he never got the part from mitsi, so it wasnt genuine.
Problem is the one he has just replaced it with has snapped.

Is it true that this also runs the water pump?

Would this effect the power steering ? because when it snapped the first time i had had to turn the car and bring it back down to him and there was NO pwer steering.

The mechanic phoned mitsi and ordered a new one which arrived today but he says it doesnt fit, so my mate had a look incase he was trying for more money. And correct it doesnt fit.
He said he phoned them back and gave my Chassis number and according to them it is the correct one.

Is there more than one type or size of these belts?

If any of the traders could help me out here with supplying a new part and giving some info please do.

*Edit* I was told this would be a ribbed belt. Is this true?

Thanks

you can buy an alternator belt from camskill. but when you
were driving it sounds like he had just put the alternator belt on because you have to take power
steering belt off to fit the alternator belt.
