Putting later model pistons/rods etc into early Evo... ??

Can anyone provide me with a definitive list/guide of parts that I need for this, and tips on what/what not to do please?

So far, I think I need the following:

E6/7 pistons
E6/7 rods(?)
Thinner HG (what size exactly please?)
E6/7 oil squirters

And there seems to be a debate on whether turning the pistons 180deg because of the orientation difference between Evo models is required or not. Can anyone who's done the conversion and has been running it for a while answer this categorically at all please? Apparently, some people say that turning them round causes piston slap (not that I know what that is??), while others say that NOT turning them round will cause it!!

And if a list/walkthrough is produced, maybe the mods could sticky it? Probably plenty of early Evo owners are gonna be looking at doing this in the near future...

Anything else that I've missed?

Cheers

Dave

everyone wants to do this now lol. since i mentioned it people have gone mad!. Its been done by a few people I think in the past. As far as i'm aware you just need th pistons and rods, new set of bearings, piston rings if needed and just a normal head gasket or uprated if you wish. think thats all? one of them jobs where you may as well get a fair bit done at once i think

Aye yeah, makes sense to do some other bits whilst delving into it I guess...

I found out about it when I called up NR Autosport and asked them for a price to fit and setup:

Mines VX Rom ECU
Walbro pump
Sard FPR
HKS EVC 4

And they said they didn't really want to do it on an early engine without the internals being uprated, and Nick told me that he is currently building an E3 engine with E6 pistons etc, so we will see how that goes... I want to get it done so I can get my toys fitted!! Hehe...

why not get forged parts makes far more sense no problem putting a welbro on a early with out uprated engine. just as long as you have the standard mods etc

forged is worth it if you want more power. evo 6-8 internals good for up to 400bhp though i'm told as long as the motors set up right. I'll be happy with 350bhp tbh. enough for me. any more and i'll end up dead in a ditch lol

I thought later model pistons were forged anyway? :eh?: Or am I making that up?

Aye yeah, the Walbro can go on... Just didn't see the point in fitting it and putting wear on it before the rest of the parts. Saying that, I was toying with the idea of whacking the ECU in now and seeing what happens... According to the chap I bought it from, it will increase low end response over the factory unit...

But yeah... I've managed to get in with some guys who work for a parts supplier, so can get new parts at less than trade prices, so figured that some new E6 pistons and rods would be a bit of a bargain if they got me them... Failing that, could always get some that have been removed from an E6 when THAT was uprated...

Cheers

Haha yeah, pretty much my thoughts exactly...

I mean, 350bhp and matching torque is gonna be enough to see off most things you'd come across on the road, and I would imagine it would hold its own on a track? (never been on a track, so I might be talking complete dogshit haha...)

But yeah, I doubt I would be wanting more than 400bhp in the near future anyway. Hence my thinking of the E6 internals...

if you put in the ecu you will need the welbro in. no later models do not have forged pistons .

all i am saying is bens point why put in parts that are second hand and may last a short time when you can buy new forged parts from say petbeemer a bit more expensive but far more worth it and you know then what you are getting. and they will last far far longer :???:
