HKS FUEL CUT DEFENCER/ SPEED LIMIT DEFENCER

Can anyone tell me what, if anything do they do differntly from each other?
Surely the both stop the fuel being cut ? If that is the case why do Hks make the pair of them when one will do the job?

Dont know anything about the later but it sounds like , from your description 1 is a fuel cut defencer and the other is related to speed ie a speed limiter to keep max speed to whatever its set to ?

The HKS Speed Limit Defencer is an electronic device designed to eliminate a vehicle’s factory speed limiter.

The HKS Fuel Cut Defenser is an electronic device developed to properly raise the factory fuel cut level on factory turbo vehicles.

These are two completely different systems, The FCD prevents fuel cut by increasing the fuelling. The SLD just increases your top end speed, but not affecting your fuel cut.

IIRC

IIRC the Fuel Cut Defencer just prevents the signal from the Air Flow Meter exceeding 17Khz (the frequency at which fuel cut occurs).

The problem with this is as you are fooling the ECU into thinking that the engine is taking in less air than it actually is.

This will result in the engine running lean, so if you exceed the fuel cut airflow by too much, it's good bye engine

This is why the HKS web site has the following warning :-

"Warning: Due to the characteristics of this product, higher than recommended or unsafe boost levels may be attained by the installation and use of the FCD. This may result in severe damage to the vehicles engine or other mechanical parts. We suggest a fuel delivery upgrade and consulting a trained technician before the purchase and use of the FCD."

If you're worried about fuel cut, get a Ralliart ECU, Power FC or EKUTEC remap, all of which cost between £400-£600. More than the £100 FCD but a lot cheaper than a new engine.

Cheers,

Simon
