Oil catch can ?

What is the purpose of an oil catch can? Have seen a couple of cars with a normal can of coke used as one :-?

Oil breathers go to the air intake which means oil vapour goes into the inlet, oil catch tank goes in the oil breather line therefore catching oil and reducing the oil vapour to your engine.

You should only need one if you've significantly increased boost though, as you'd be getting more 'blow by' pressurising the crank case.
