VII rear foglight wiring??????

Hi, got my VII yesterday, it's like new & the only thing that doesn't work is the rear foglight & it's bugging me!!

There was a wire put in for the positive feed (I know as it had a piece of masking tape saying rear fog light!) but it wasn't connected at both ends.

I've wired it up at the back end (I've got VIII rear lights with fog light built in) & it works when I apply power, but I can't suss out where to wire it behind the dash, there is no switched live on the foglight switch so I think it goes to a relay................ does anyone know where the relay is or can tell me how to do it please ops:

Cheers, Nik

The best spot to wire it to is to take power from the side lights, so that the fog only comes on when the lights are on. If you look at the workshop manuals they have full wiring diagrams, if you're not familar with read electrical diagrams give me a shout and i can help out.

Cheers dral, still not sure what you mean sorry mate ops:

If I take power from the side lights the fog will come on with the sidelights will it not?

I am using the existing earth that goes to the rear light & a positive that runs from behind the dash straight to the foglight.

I need to know what to connect this wire to (on the same circuit as the foglight switch).

Cheers, Nik

No problem mate,

It should go - side light power to foglight switch, to foglight, to earth.

That way turning the side lights on energises to the switch, turning that on too lights the foglight.

What kind of fog light switch do you have, there is a fog light circuit on VIIs but as most cars have had the fog fitted later it's often not used. I'll be more help when i'm home and i'll dig out the manual.

Right, I've got the side light power to foglight switch wire (green with white stripe), there are 3 more wires going to the switch, but NONE "switch on" when you press the switch!!!!!

The switch is a press type next to the headlight level dial on the right hand side of the dash in front of where the fuse box is.

The front fogs come on when you press it................ I just can't work out how it works :-?

That sound like the stock front fog switch for the HIDs, if it's one button about 3cm tall that's all it'll do and you need to find another switch for the rear.

If it's split into two buttons one will do front, one the back.

Can you grab a photo?

If you have three wires going the switch its probably power in (from side lights), direct earth for illumation for the switch, and the wire to run to the fog. If you have a multimeter i can help you figure out which is which.

You're right, it is the switch for the HIDs so it looks like I need the other split switch you mentioned, any ideas?

You should have an aftermarket switch somewhere for the rear one, where is anybody's guess though, normally it's around the same area.

If there isn't one, then you either pick a switch from halfords and put it in, or get the split one to replace your current front fog switch from mitsubishi and wire that in, most of the wiring should be in place.

There should have been a fog switch in when it went through it's SVA, but if there's no evidence of it, it might have been removed.
