Evo5 Problems

Hi

As you know I am currently looking at buying an Evo5 or 6 - more than likely a 5. Anyway I have spotted what looked like a superb white example in Cornwall. I have e-mailed the owner and he has confirmed the following :

My car has done 77,000 miles,(most on long motorways) has had overhauled head, g/box, full exh. inc. cat. and most recently a brand new a/c compressor and electro clutch, this alone cost £1000!

Hmmmm now I thought that Evo's were pretty much bullet proof ? So am I right in thinking that this ones had a hard life ? I can't understand how a gearbox. engine and clutch would need sorting if the car has covered mostly Motorway miles ?

Any thoughts or advice most welcome oh yea and the car is around the £13K mark

77K  bloody hell mate that's a lot of miles for a £13K car To be honest you could have mine for £13K and it's only done 33K miles!! New helix organic clutch, new tyres, new pads, cambelt and balancer belt changed, 6 stack cd, ayc fluid changed, transmission oils changed, cat back mongoose exhaust, blitz panel filter, Cat one and cat two alarms, scotia white, minter!!

But 'm not selling
Just showing that it really is a bit overpriced!!

hi
agree with comments expensive with high mileage,a lot of work to have been done when mostly motorway runs.
my V only had 19000 on when i got it just before xmas, low realy and sure i paid more than top whack at £15995 but wanted it badly so didnt haggle.
you could ask the seller if he will let you get an AA check on it or check out the one on the site looks tops

I'd buy that V tomorrow if I had the money Just need to offload my Scoob first

Thanks for your comments guys I thought this did seem a bit pricey for the mileage etc. I want to make sure I get a good one My scoob has been (i know i shouldn't say it) but trouble free and don't want to buy into trouble.....I was just really surprised to see a V with so much work having been done at that mileage ? Is this the sort of thing I can expect to be replacing/overhauling at 77K miles ? Sorry guys but I don't know too much about Evo's but am trying to learn

Thanks again

Well the guy has come back to me.

He will take My Scoob as part ex and I got the price wrong its actaully £12K with 77K miles. The guy selling says he has had it for a year and has only done 2000 miles in it. Its been a dry storage otherwise but now has his sights set on an Evo8FQ (lucky guy)

Guys heres the advert - any further thoughts ? You'll need to scroll down the page until you see the Evo5

Well it looks nice and sounds like its been well looked after.

You could say at that mileage, things that need doing may have been done by now - looking at the work above, it is stuff you won't need to do.

I would want to see loads of receipts to verify the repairs and overhauls (I know you know this - just saying )

And obviously a spririted test drive would give you a feel for if its warn. I would take/get a mechanic / RAC/AA Insepection, someone like Scoobynut would be useful.

It does look nice, but I honestly wouldn't touch an Evo with that mileage, nor would a lot of people, so it would be an utter nightmare to sell on when you've put another 20k miles or so on. It's not even that cheap either, you could get a much nicer one with under 40k on for that money, IMO.
