damaged/crashed cars

has anyone brought a damaged or track crashed car?

ive seen one on the net and think it will be a good project/track car.

the guy is stating the running gear is all ok, only body damage.

worth a punt? or leave well alone...........?

All i can say jav is be very carefull as evos are prone to transmition damage in accidents so can become extreemly expensive by the time you have done

thats what i was worried about.

do you thing a quick drive on a private road would highlight the major problems or will these come out after a 1000 miles etc.

also will the handling suffer on the track or will new bushes, arms etc sort this out.

sorry mate ive never brought a damaged car so not all that clued up. im really just doing this as a long running track car project. i think if i get it at the right price i might just give it a go but i dont want to spend all the money and for it to handle like a hippo out of water.

thanks for the info

Hiya mate,

I looked long and hard at this option before I bought my seven.

I was looking at a crashed 8 and after pricing a few bits, even from other breakers etc the costs were spiraling massively.

My old man used to build and prep rally cars back in the day, had the knowledge and experience and he said just that...leave well alone. The exterior was pricey enough but mechanically the costs would have been astronomical. Never mind trying to ensure it thereafter - might be alright if it was for a track car I guess.

Suppose every case is different however as the car I looked at needed the a-pillar straightening and other jobs on the chassis. Few years ago now TBH.

Happy I bought a 7 in the end anyway and no regrets in the end.

Well put aidy

Jav if you are determind to take this route i would strongly advise taking someone who really knows their stuff with you to check the mechanical side out for you,but better still take aidy,s adviceand leave well alone.you could import a nice low milage evo III from japan for a track car for under 3k

I thought the 3 was your track toy mate.

The prices the earlies are going for these days, I don't think it would be cheaper getting a damaged one to be honest. I was looking on piston heads the other day and my god there are some cheap ones going. Or try flea bay for a popped engine one or something.

sorry for the confusion..........yes i already have a track evo3

i was being naughty and thinking of replacing my evo8 with a nice cheap damaged evo8. i was thinking of spending around 5-7k to buy/strip/repair/mod/etc the car and then wouldn't mind trashing it around the track for that price range. i just think they look so sleek and i am missing mine so much already!

but i think i may have underestimated the work and cost involved so probably give this a miss unless the guy gives me very good price.

my misses is saying to save the money and buy the evo10 when it comes out (not for track of course)......but ive got itchy fingers now and cant wait hence my inquiry!!

thanks for the info guys. :-)
