Removing air-con

Hi all, can someone tell me if i can remove the aircon on a II without needing different pulleys and belts etc to compensate as you do on some cars?

Cheers
Martin

Is very simple Martin. Cut the air con belt and take off. Discharge the gas carefully as its fooking cold  and would prob freeze you finger disconnect all the air con pipes. You will need to move the rad to enable you to take the air con radiator out. The pump its self is just four bolts and a couple of pipes but is very heavy and awkward to get out of engine bay due to not alot of room. The i think its another four bolts for the bracked which again is pritty weighty. Job done Dont need to change pullys or any belts 8)

Cheers :-)
I had a horrible feeling it would be like some cars where you need to purchas and fanny around with air-con "removal kits".
Frozen finger eh? Will have to make sure other half is around when i do it, sure she can find somewhere warm to put it :muhaha:

like ben said basicly.

but when your discharging the air con make shore you have a cloth. as when i did this liquid when everywhere. and that isnt good for the paint i would have thought. plus it was a night mare to get off!

Fair point mate. Its probably worth taking down to the local council tip/recylcing place as its the same refrigerant found in the canisters in the back of fridges as far as i know.

Not being a tree hugger, just if you put it down the drain the water board would have any excuse to put bills up if enough people did it
