Crankwalk??

How can you tell if an Evo has crankwalk?
I'm looking for an Evo4 for around 5000/6000 grand and have been told they suffer from it.
Is it a bottom end rattle?
Does it occur from under fuelling/running wrong octane?
I've seen a few in auto trader and pistonheads but I want to know what to look for when I travel down the M6.
