Common type

Is a five speed alway common with rally type cars? I don't mind either, but I am really used to a six speed, so I figure ask the question while I am still saving up my funds for my newest toy.

Well to my knowledge it is very common for rally cars to have 5 speed transmissions. Or at least the ones that I have had the pleasure of working on or driving have. I have many friend that prefer the 5 speed, for whatever reason. I have not asked them but maybe that raises the question now. I will see what I can find out about how they might differ. I have never noticed a difference myself.
