5th Gear synchro sorted!

Thanks to the chaps at FCM in Bristol, i got my 5th gear synchro sorted on my IIRS
Despite having been crunching for over 18months, everything else (including 5th gear) was intact! Below is a pic of the old selector ring

After getting the 'box open, replacing the parts and sealing it back up we filled it with Redline 75/90 (expensive but good) The gearbox now feels nice and smooth now the new parts have bedded in and i no longer need to let the revs drop right down if i want to change up to 5th without a crunch!

Anyone in the South West who wants theirs done, give John @ FCM a bell, he is an old hand at doing these now :muhaha: 0117 941 32 32

I'm always so glad that you can blaze a trail so that John knows what he's doing when he does mine

I guess this was done with the box in the car?

My 3rd and 4th are intermittently a bit iffy - not sure if it's the synchros or something else (only does it going up through the box, not down, and sometimes it's OK, sometimes not) - I suspect it's a box out job

My walbro pump and sard FPR are on their way (with a plan for one of Pete's ECUs ), but I think I may have to get the gearchange resolved first.

Pete; part number for the selector ring is MD747652. Dont know the corresponding synchro number.

Steve; Yes it's a "box in" job. Didnt take very long at all.
With the selection problems id try just draining the oil and renewing it. We used Redline 75/90 fully synth and after the initial notchiness, the box is a hell of a lot smoother in general now 8)

Nice one Martin
Steve we use Redline super heavy duty in the stroker and its just gone through its first box in 10k which aint bad with 625ftlbs going through it

John changed the oil about 800 miles ago for me - not much difference. However we didn't go for fully synth, so maybe we need to do it again, but this time use the "right stuff". If a jobs worth doing it's worth doing twice

I dont think the semi/fully-synth makes a huge difference to be honest Steve. If it was only changed 800 or so miles ago id try an additive such as Molyslip or the Forte equivalent and see how that fares.
