benefits of RS gearing/gearbox?

hi all

thinking about getting an RS gearbox from a 6 or 7 if i'm lucky!

a few questions tho, as i know top speed will be compromised.

will torque actually increase with the shorter gearing?

will i be able to put a GSR 5th gear in the RS gearbox for motorway cruising etc, not that i do much of that!

also, what are the top speeds for each gear?

Cheers
Matt

Hi mate,

Well afaik the torque wont increase per say but the RS box is great for track work with the ratios being shorter.

Yes you can fit a GSR fifth gear should you wish.

Speeds in every gear are something like this

1st: 42mph vs 45mph

2nd: 60mph vs 65mph

3rd: 81mph vs 90mph

4th: 107mph vs 123mp

5th: 142mph vs 166mph

Compared to my GSR box I'd now keep my RS box without question!!!! 8) :muhaha:

6 and 7 rs box are identical, as for launching. I dont think it'll make any difference tbh

Downsides, erm..........no 8)

Possibly a bit high revving for a few but a lovely box and worth the extra noise.

sounds good! when you say high revving would that mean the turbo spools up quicker or earlier than a gsr?
have you noticed any other benefits compared to the gsr gearbox?

Hmmm hard to explain but I guess you would think spool up is earlier but it's just the ratios on the box are shorter. I know what I mean if you get me???

When I say high revving I mean that with the ratio being shorter than the GSR the revs are higher on the RS box at the same speed.

The only possible downside is fuel consumption with the RS box! :muhaha:
