AYC Diff without AYC?
I recently bought a GSR Evo IV Import, direct from Japan.
It arrived....with a nasty knock from the back. A few people suggested that the diff had probably had it.
Removing the gearbox oil today, nice and clean. AYC fluid and there's some metal fragments on the plug, one looks like a tooth so yup I guess it had had it.
Removing the diff and it turns out that the AYC has been disconnected and the reservoir, wiring etc has all been removed from the car.
I'm a bit puzzled now...should I buy a replacement rear diff without AYC or one with? I have been offered one with AYC, could I use it?

as far as i know a ayc diff will work without the ayc plumbed in, tho obviously this will just be an open diff with no kind of torque biasing.
Mine's been running for ages without the ayc working due to a knackered pump, with no noticeable side effects.
though your best bet, if you can find one is to fit a lsd one from an RS version.

An AYC diff won't work if it's not connected to a pump and ECU, i'd guess the condition yours is in is a result of it being disconnected.
You can fit any of variety of diffs, the RS LSD is good, or there are quite a few aftermarket ones, they can be difficult to get hold of and cost quite a lot though.
Or. if you want AYC. you can get that restored, the cost will depend what you've got left, but quite few people with GSRs drop the AYC if they use the car on track quite a lot, so you may get a reasonable priced second hand set up.
Good luck.

Hello,
Just wondering whats the reason that some1 might get rid
of the AYC.. I thought that was ment to be a good thing
on the evo so why change it? Would it affect performance?

if everything has been removed then possibly it has an aftermarket diff inside the AYC case??
the "RS" diff will not fit straight in, you'll need shafts/prop, etc. to make work...................

Some people like it, some don't. It affects the way the car corners tremdously, AYC shifts the power between the rear wheels to push you round, but some people find that intrusive and prefer the feel of a mechanical diff.
