crunching gears on moving off? any ideas?

well i'm gutted.. I launched it, and then heard a crunch when selecting 2nd gear and taking foot off the clutch
same in 3rd... didnt want to go any further as didnt want to mess any thing else up.

still not sure whats wrong with it was told it could be the drive shafts that have spun out? or the release bearing gone into something?

either way anyone got any ideas?

also. there's no play in the clutch pedal it doesnt feel loose or anything

cheers
matt

getting someone to look at it tonight, so will hopefully know for sure :S

i dont even know what the synchro mesh is

if it is that, do you know how much a new one would cost?

for that matter if its the drive shafts, are they pricey?

is there any way of strengthening those bits , or is it a case of learning how to launch better ?
(or not at all)

Launching will distroy your clutch if nothing else mate

as for the parts of the gearbox I don't think it is the parts that are that expensive but the Labour to strip a gearbox (not done it and hope never to need to)

Driveshafts not too sure mate I am sure the Tech guru's on here will know

yeah.. shouldnt really launch it should i! it's got a 5 paddle helix clutch rated to 450lbs/ft of torque.
but yes, people do tell me it'll also only last so long, so i'd better take it easy.

thanks for your help

Sounds Syncro ish to me but best get it checked over. It's unlikely to be shaft related :???:

Ok a small update, carl (carlsevo off the mlr) and dave who did the e7 engine conversion for me came to look at the car.

They reckon it's not shaft related as whoosh said, sounds like its coming from the transfer box! :???: but they'll have a look under it on sat morning and find out what exactly is wrong!!

Eeeek but probably cheaper than the box to be honest!

Good luck getting it sorted!

I was speaking to a friend on sunday and his opinion on launching is when you have a stronger clutch say a paddle clutch launching is more harmful due to the fact that the clutch absorbs all the torque and slings it straight in to the gear box very harshly unlike a weaker clutch which will obviously slip a little bit and calm the torque down being much easier on the box........ Thats why when i launch mine like a hooligan with my paddle it just lights all 4 wheels up ....Think of the damage in the gearbox OOOPS!!
