Help needed - Evo 1

Hey guys
Need some help regarding my evo 1 i just picked up.

The problem is, it has a very lumpy idle and is generally rough sounding
It drives very different to how my old evo1 drove in that It seems to have a lot of low down torque.
It drives pretty smooth and is fine through the gears but just sounds a bit boomy, not like an evo should
The guy i bought it off says its had uprated cams but he doesnt seem 100% sure on this
Also he says its had a custom made front pipe as the old one was f^^ked hence the boomy exhaust note but It sounds like the exhaust is blowing IMO

Has anybody got any opinions here??
Scared to drive it now in case it f**ks up on me

lumpy idle and rough sounding would say to me that it has been cammed m8.this would also explain the torque.if you think the exhaust is blowing take it to your local ats and get it checked its free and you dont have to get dirty. :-)
hope this helps you m8

I'd go with uprated cams too from what you describe.

Thanks bjorn
Hope so!!

One thing, is it commonplace to uprate the cams in an early evo?
The only other mods i know of are an exhaust and dump valve
Seems a strange way to tune an evo???

Any ideas :???:

It wouldn't explain the torque as the torque with even mild cams goes up the rev range, not at the bottom
Has it got cam gears with adjustable throw on?
If the stock cam gears are fitted i would check the timing as it sounds more like stock cams timed out to me
this would give lumpy idle and dependant on which can is timed out a lot of torque down low

Why do you think the prop or diff may be on the way out?
