Cheap/easy HP

Now, i know what your gonna say, no such thing as cheap HP 8) BUT, from the VW experiance i have, over the years i found easy ways and cheap ways to up power, nothing mind blowing but enough to notice a diff.

So i ask, on my 1991 Galant VR-4 if anyone knows any easy mods and cheap ones (cheap as in almost nothing, not an exhaust job lol)?

Also, if anyone knows what boost my motor is running stock , and how i would up it?

thanks
Dave

Well the VR4 was the original engine supplier to the Evo's, so its the 4G63 like the Evo 1.

So with that in mind, I would guess that the turbo would be the same? If so, on my 2, it ran about .8 bar standard, and I think the earlier low compression engines (vr4 + evo 1 & 2) could run up to 1.3bar.

Don't quote me on this, these are my assumptions.

And, how do i turn up the boost on the factory set up? also, i heard there is a re-circulating system so i dont hear my wooosh lol. I heard you can unplug a line or 2, anyone know which ones?

I run 94oct (best available in Canada) besides race fuel ,so i figure i can get away with a little knob turning

Now if i only knew what the bar to psi conversion was lol

thanks mates, cheers!

The Evo 1 & 2's engine shouldn't run more than 1 bar boost if I remember correctly.

Putting more than this through is asking for problems, you should be ok if you increase the boost to 1 bar but I would advise not to go higher than this on standard ecu

Hope this helps

T,

1.2 is fairly safe in the Evo I and II. The III is on the limit at 1.1 I believe.

This is assuming decat, some kind of filter and aftermarker exhaust system.. :muhaha:
