cooling fan problems

Hi folks can anyone help ?. My radiator fan will not switch off even when the engine is switched off and the keys are removed, the only way to stop it is to disconect the battery. The temp gauge in the car seems normal and when the air con is switched on the fan speeds up as normal.Could this fault be caused by a faulty temp sender,a faulty relay or something more serious.

Thanks

Al
