1.2bar safe?

my mates is changing his boost to 1.2bar-ish.

now ive told his to take it to 1bar and see how the car copes but he's going for it. will this be ok on a standard-ish e3. hes got normal mods:

induction,
decat,
manual boost controller

will the engine cope? shall i start looking for a replacement engine for him :muhaha:

also when does e3 boost cut kick in?

thanks

jav

I would strongly suggest he turns it down to 1 or 1.1 bar.

Some earlies can run 1.2 not a problem but others have had serious consquences (spelling).

Our 1 and I don't know what has been done internally but it would run 1.5 all day every day, it was hard to keep it on the road though. So we kept ours to a max of 1.1 bar.

I would suggest you say to your mate. if you really want to run 1.2 bar get ready for a big repair bill.

Get him to speak to Pete and see what he sugest's.

thats just what i thought.........my car use to peak at .8 so i thought the logical step would be 1bar max.

Personaly on an evo3 i tell people to crank it up,basically because the pistons will probably be broke already so you may as well have fun while you can, running 1.2 over 1bar makes very little difference exept in power.
The problem you face is the manual boost controller that only deserves the bin

I have a customer running well over 400bhp on a stock evo3 bottom end and has done for many moons now, although things like head gasket and bolts were uprated when the motor got rebuilt but goes to show they will take it,it runs a 30-71 turbo and mid to high 11sec quarters

agree with what pete say,s. but i advice him to get a uprated fuel pump and reg too. if he,s not wanting to go bang quickly. and thats from experiance

the ecu will run 1.7 bar before fuel cutting. but as said the sandard pump etc will only support 1.1 ish safely i think..
