EVO 2 clutch question

Hi guys (n gurls)

I am about to put a clutch in my evo2.

I have been told that putting a clutch with a too heavier pressure plate in it can damage the crank. Pushing the crank forwards when the clutch is applied and chewing out both the thrust and the crank.

Just wondering what truth there is behind this as I already have a heavy 4 puck clutch for this, and you guessed it, a chewed out crank from a rebuild that did no more than 1000km's. (previous owner)

Just after some advice to the truth of this and if it is a real issue, how people have gone about resolving it.

THanks in advance

Scott

Hmm, i've heard of crankwalk become chronic very soon after fitting an organic plate clutch and lightened (i think) flywheel. I was under the impression that it was the flywheel that caused the crankwalk to rear its ugly head so quickly though.

Would be interested in finding out as i too need a replacement clutch and am in two minds whether to go organic or not!

You are correct in thinking its the heavy plate that causes crankwalk, but its not the solution.
Dependant on what sort of power your thinking of going to dictactes what clutch to use, preferably as light as possible.
The flywheel isn't to do with it as more standard motors get it.
I believe have the cure for all 1-4 evo's, upto now we have done seven modded engines mine included(which was a used crank)and non have walked!
Let me know what sort of clutch you want as i have my own spec now for the early and late evo's which are prooving to be both affordable and practical

Hi there,

Thanks for teh quick responses guys. I wasnt sure about this as my previous car ran a 6 bolt (vr4) bottom end and it had no dramas with teh heavy pressure plate I had.

I am looking to run 350-400 hp atw.

Have all the other good bits, but was just scared of putting this heavy clutch back in and having the same problem a few km's down teh track.

Any chance you could pm me with some details on these clutches you have tested, as I have just purchased an OEM one to get me out of trouble for the time being, and was going to look into uprating the pressure plate a little to try and hold as best as i can

i would have suggested using the 6 bolt motor again tbh m8,they still walk but because of the larger main/bigend bearings tend to do it less and can take more pain in the process

pm sent
