Do i actually NEED an aftermarket BOV?

Hi all,
As above i was just wondering exactly what use an aftermaket BOV is. I dont thin there is a problem with my standard one, i took it off a few months ago and there seems to be plenty of spring tension there. Since i swapped to a 3" turbo back exhaust and upped boost to 1.2bar i have noticed that it makes alot more noise.
So,question is....is there ever any benefit of having an aftermarket BOV if the factory one is working ok?
BTW, i want to avoid loud vent-to0air "chav trumpets" if i can

Cheers
Martin

From what I have read, the standard one can't handle pressures above 1.2 bar. So the re-circ ones by the likes of forge etc.. are a good upgrade if you plan more boost or if it ever starts leaking. Or you could just use a standard one off a Evo 6 on, as these can handle higher boost.

Have replaced my standard one for a forge unit (return) it does not produce a chav sound as does a bailey
but when it does return it is quite manly as you can here the return through the induction kit.

Saying that the amount of lag produced from a return is considerably more than from a bov.

You don't actually NEED one as such until you are taking it past 1.2 bar as mentioned above

But the originals are prone to leaking after that, so if you are wanting to mod in the future then its a worthwhile investment :muhaha:

Also early evo owners have found that vent to air dump valves can couse problems with the idle and very jumpy when backing off the gas. After testing a few i found the hks one to be best with no idle issues nor jumpy. Saying that i have had the forge re-circ before and found it to be very smooth. My old plastic one cracked in two places
In a nut shell, i think its all down to the noise and must admit, i do like it ops:
