Strange response from engine - Evo VII

Hello all,

Shame that one of first posts has to be a problem but here goes, if anyone has experienced similar probs or knows what it could be and is able to offer any advice, it'd be much appreciated.

In each gear gradually bleeding the power in is fine and reponse is good but,
........ giving it a boot full makes the revs stay where they are, maybe even dip slightly, then 2-3 seconds later the car does a knightrider down the road near breaking your neck. Wierd.

Now, I've just changed the battery as my original needed binning from too much recharging could this have fecked up the engine management?

Its really strange the way the power / boost seems to build then releases all at once. Like a strange anti-lag that suddenly rights itself, then makes up for it all at once.

Obviously I'm driving it on low revs only - to minimise any possible damage but to be fair it doesn't seem to be affecting the car too much.

Just thought I'd see if some of the more technical minded amongst you may know what it is.

Thanks in advance,

Aidy

To be honest, I'm struggling to understand your description of the problem. Do you mean the boost stops?? :???:

Do you have a boost gauge?? What does it read??

Have you checked that your battery terminals are tight.

Neil said it sound like a fuel problem, or maybe you have knocked a vacuum pipe off whilst changing the battery.

It might be worth checking just incase it's something silly.

You have my number if you want to ring Neil.

Not sure either from the decription.

Could it actually be a misfire due to worn spark plugs?

On my old evo i thought i was getting fuel cuts due to overboost but it turned out to be the plugs and was just misfiring.

Yeah Tuppy has the description better than I had TBH. Its nothing at all then a sudden kick of boost...... showing my ignorance here sorry but are we talking about a turbo actuator??

Haven't got a boost gauge so thats no help unfortunately.

Only done 11,500 pretty much dry miles as well. Blimey.

Was careful changing the battery TBH but I'll check it out cheers. I'll keep you up to date.

Thanks to all who pitched in I'm just going out to have a poke around. Fnar fnar. :-)
