Wheel Bearing change

Is it easy to do ??

I have had a noise coming from the front n/s and having done loads of reading up the exact symptoms I am getting point to a wheel bearing

Now on the E6 etc am I correct in thinking that the whole hub has to be changed ?? If so is this something that is DIY or is it best to take it to a dealer ?

I am not afraid to work on the car just don't want to start something I might regret later

watched my wheel bearing being done on the E4, changed as a complete unit, didn't look to difficult, would probably do next one myself.

Think it's held on by 4/5 bolts into the rear of the hub. So I would think it goes something like
1. wheel off
2. caliper off
3. undo big centre nut
4. undo bottom ball joint
5. swing leg away
6. undo 4/5 bolts in bearing carrier.
7. replace and do all in reverse

dave

IMVHO of course!!!

And I'll soon be able to tell you  As My n/s/f one sounds like it's on it's way out. Whines in the straight ahead position, turn that way and the noise goes away.

Ditto mate - straight line *ahem* very noisey turn right still noisey - turn left silent I though the noise was coming from the very wide Potenzas on the car or the Apexi Coil Overs - wishful thinking on my part

Having real problems trying to find the Wheel bearing kits though

Pretty sure Camskills do the kits
They also do the complete hubs which is the best way to do it.
I did one of my fronts before christmas and I think it was £109

Good luck

Well the plot thickens ;0

Took the car to a very good guy I know and he wasn't convinced it is wheel bearing - so he checked the wheels and it turns out track rod end on the o/s/f is loose/worn meaning there is slight play left and right on the wheel

So I have just ordered a pair of replacement rod ends from Camskill - £48 all in
