Early evo steering HELP!

hi guys

just a quickie is there any tricks to changing track rods on the early cars?
just spent a morning unsuccessfully trying to change both on mine, 32mm spanners so big just aint got the room to turn it...ive ordered a 32mm 1/2" crowsfoot fingers crossed itll doit, any other ideas?

Track rod end ball joints?? Its screwed onto the end of the track rod with a locking nut. Unlock the locking nut. Then take the split pin out of the castle nut and undo nut. Wack the bottom of the ball joint with a hammer top pop it out. Then unscrew from track rod Im sure they werent 32mm nuts though that is pritty big :shock: i thought they were around 17mm :???:

This is a track rod end........

thanks ben, its the actual track rod that attaches to the rack underneath the rack boots, big ol nut with two flats on (32mm) that are horizontal when tight (ie paralell to the chassis leg) and aright pain in the arse to get a spanner on, i acn crack them of but cant actually undo them as you've only got the two flats to work with

I can see what you mean with teh crows foots to fit on a ratchet. Will give you a few more angles to work with. Will have a look

i used the stilstons when i did ours :-)
you are on about what they call the steering rack end arent you?
