knock meter
after having a gander in jap performance i saw a section on a knock meter, and how there good for when you turn the boost for checking that its not detonating incorrectly.
i am planning on upping the boost on mine to 1.2 bar, would it be worth my time investing in one of these? if so which would people recommend? cheers ian |

We sell and recommend Knocklinks, if you are tuning for increased performance I would definately advise in you getting one
The knocklink sensor is normally screwed into a boss on the engine block. In either case, the sensor must be in such a position that block vibrations are coupled to the sensor. Assuming the engine is operating correctly, the LEDs will show only background noise which will rise in proportion to engine power output. Any abrupt rise in signal level at any time is an indication that your engine is detonating. The immediate remedy is to close the throttle. Severe detonation will destroy any engine in seconds. Knocking is the self detonation of the unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber toward the end of combustion. The flame burns abound ten times faster than normal causing huge pressures. Possible cures for knocking are: cooler intake air; increased intake humidity; reduce load; increase RPM; enrichen or lean engine from lambda stoichiometric; improve spark; increase octane level of fuel; reduce total ignition advance etc. This is a pic of the ones we use:

Cheers T
Would you recomend this on my car, or only cars of higher state of tune. Will this show knock if your using the wrong grade fuel? What sort of prices are these?

as the box is a little ugly when on display why not get busy with the soldering iron and fit some new led's in the binnacle
