SERVICE HISTORY QUESTION.......

Hi everyone
Right, my evo tme is about 90 miles away from it's 35,000 mile service,
all the previous services have been carried out by Mitsi main dealers.
However, i know i can get the servicing done alot cheaper by an evo specialist (say CPP for example who would probably do a much better job than the dealers anyway) but im worried as that might put people off from buying the car when i do come to sell it as it will not have a full dealer s/h!

I know when i was looking to buy an evo it took me a while as i wanted to get a uk one with full s/h & when i went & viewed my tme i felt more comfortable buying it as it had full dealer history.

So,

what are your opinions on this matter?
Would you spend say over 17k odd on a car without dealer history or would'nt it bother you as long as it had been serviced & the book had some sort of stamp in there?

Thanks in advance,
A.J

Personally i'd rather see a service history at a reputable specialist than a dealer, but that's because i've had an Evo and know what the mitsubishi dealers can be like.

The general public do like dealer history, but you will save money and have better job by a specialist, and given you well sell the car on to another enthusiast, i'd go with someone like CPP, AMS or NR Autosport. You'll get the peace of mind your car being looked after too.

IMO anyone who has a knowledge of the usual Mitsi dealership servicing would prefer it to have been looked after by an Evo Enthusiast Trader anyway.

We care for the cars and give them a good thorough going over, because we all own one I know what it takes to keep the cars in good condition.

I think as long as you have the service history up to date and at the intervals as stated you won't go far wrong

I agree, as an enthusiast, I would rather have the car looked after by a specialist than a dealer................... but I think Mr. Average would prefer main dealer

I totally agree with the specialist preferance to the dealers servicing....I have seen too many horror stories with some dealers servicing.....However,This servicing lark,Can be very misleading....For example:-
A guy,3 doors up from where i live has had a motorbility car for over 12 years (Change every 3 years)Having had 4 brand new cars in total,These motorbility cars get everything thay need when thay need it....But,In the case of these 4 vehicles,Each car...Has ran the sump "Totaly dry" 3 times between each service.....The last time,I had to check the oil level for the guy ...Becouse of the noise it was making outside (Rattling)....Now bear in mind,Each and every car has got "FULL SERVICE HISTORY"-On vertualy the dot milage wise,And most,Before its time....
So-Whilst,The service history,Shows the car has at least,Had some oil changes....What goes on in-between,Can be quite horrific....And in the motorbility cars case....When you go to the dealer...He pushes the fact -Its got full service history,Been a motorbility car-So its had everything its needed eta,eta....
And some poor person,Now-splashes his hard earned on a car that on paper looks the dogs dangly bits....

I think its more the case of people beware..Wether it full history or not....
Just a thought...
And lets not forget,The Evo`s ..Will have slightly larger piston to bore clearances to cope with the higher heat expansion/conditions its expected to work under..So,the phisics, expect this to be more a case than the everyday runaround vehicle ....Kev.

.......................... one good thing about the evo, even if you were some sort of plank who never checked the oil, you'd still be hard pushed to run it too low on oil between services

ive stamped up quite a few ralliart books which have had man dealer services up until mine, and people always seem happy to go this way.

a ralliart stamp doesnt necessarily mean the cars been treated well at all!!

Thanks for the replies people

I've decided it's time to ditch the dealers & start having the car looked after by evo specialists after all, they deal with evo's day in day out whereas the dealers probably service more Shogun's in comparison

So is there anyone here who thinks it's best to stick with the dealers at all?

AJ....Its finding a dealer that takes pride in the car and its servicing....There are good and bad in all walks of life...And,Obviously..Some dealers will take pride in getting custom from the public. But in general, its their bread & Butter...And the more cars thay can do in a day...The better the profit....Where as some of the specialists tend to know the little tweaks through experiance that some dealers dont...This obviously can be the other way around as well....Word of mouth as we all know is the best advertisement with either.....But,I personally think the specialists are a much better bet...Thay tend to put far better quality oils in the vehicles rather than "What we have been told as ok to use"
Just a thought........Kevo.
