Comments on EVO VIII 260... shortcomings actually...
Hello all,
well just bought a few new dutch magazines, one of them is Autonews and well it seems they claim Mitsubishi did only a half job on the mitsu evo 8 260 ... They claimed the following shortcomings (in almost the 2 new mags) : 1.Brakes to weak, especially because they are brembo's... Unlike a previous import EVO VII they tested... (as weak as a subaru STI) -> even a more major weakness on a track ! 2. Spring setup much to weak ! Car has too much body-roll due to the weak springs... and creates understeer.... but tnx to the super-ayc when coming out of a corner you get the feeling of oversteer which is good. 3. Very dangerous roadhandling in the wet, especially on a bit rough or badder roads... They claim this is due to the fact of the Michelin tyres that aren't good and due to the weak springs! 4. Car to nervous on bumpy roads and thus dangerous while cornering on them... 5. Interiour isn't up to date and to un-sporty. Very comfortable Recaro seats though with good lateral support ! 6. No turbo or power kick-in ... as slow as mazda 1100cc under 3000rpm but not as bad as a subaru sti that doesn't move at all under 3500rpm-4000rpm ! This is also to the weight that is up 1470kg and the Bhp that is down ... 7. It needs the 6-speed box that the Jap vesions have... They really liked the super ayc but only on good roads in the dry... it was awesome they claimed... And that for a car that costs 40395euro !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn please tell me that an Mitsu Evo VI rs2 is a far better car then discribed above ! ie. not so much shortcomings... Okay it doesn't have a 6-speed but was never designed with a 6-speed and doesn't have the Super ayc which wasn't available then too.. If somebody can read dutch I can try to use my girlfriends scanner next week to upload them somewhere... The mags pictures were of high quality and nice angels ! pffffffffffffffff I didn't expect to read all of that... okay a jap Evo VIII or an MR version will ofcourse never be commented like that.... |

Mate I dont want to diss any magazine but that is utter rubbish, even though the 260 is the cheapest on the road evo, it is still a fanatstic car and a super base for modelling the vehicle to the way you want it, with mod's.
The brembo brakes are the same as the rest of the range and the same as those used for 6 years now on the evo's they are not Fantastic but they are way superior to sti brakes or P1 brakes etc. With a simple change of pads, discs and lines you will make them awesome, also they benifit from some cooling ducting to keep the braking temp down. dont be put off that is seriously RUBBISH.

I already read a few of these comments in other previous magazines too ! especially the bad brakes and the weak spring setup
1.that of the turbo-lag = normal, no power or turbo kick in is said... that's why I think I want an evo VI 2. No sporty interiour : that also isn't a shortcomming... I mean it is like they say it is, but that is not a real shortcomming it's just a fact how they all are... jap cars in specific concerning the interiour... BUT for 40.395€ I expect a car which apart from extra power you do not need to change anything ! I mean, the brakes needs to be as good as on porches, suspension may not be too soft. Total cost for a new evo 8 260 is 45395€ to begin with.... And if you still need to pump in 5000€ isn't just affordable anymore. But surely the evo VI brakes better then the VIII due to less weight... |

I cant comment mate as ive only driven the Fq330
but the brakes on evo 6's are very very good they can easily pull you up even when running 360+ bhp, and suspension can handle anything upto 400bhp. |

Jup, it's just, when you buy a car here in belgium with 210hp or more you need to pay a 5000 euro each time you buy such a car ONCE, and also when you buy a 2nd hand one (each year this 5000euro decreases with 10% in the first 5years, then only 5% for the next years)
So it's not that easy to just buy one(for example evo VIII 260), and then later come to the conclusion that it's not good enough or not hardcore enough and you want to buy another one (in my case an evo VI rs2), then I would lose a great deal of money, not only on the car itself but also on the 5000euro taxes you and even if you buy another car in the same WEEK you don't get this back, and you must PAY AGAIN for the other car you buy. Okay each country it's own, but belgium is an anti muscle-car country... |

Yeh I know all about it im in DK regularly and my mate there is taxed to hell and back
W hat I have to say bro, the 260 is a great car, buy it over the rs11 and modify it, regardless of whether the Rs11 is better which out of the box it is, the 260 has a strong motor and tune it up, its so easy to make it 350bhp, anyone will always add aftermarket suspension etc anyway.when you buy and evo always have 5k spare to mod it thats my motto haha |
