You need acrobet reader, word and the like won't work.
You can get it free from here, http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html Hope that helps....

if you have an old version of Acrobat Reader, and the document was created using Acrobat Writer 4/5 or newer there may be a compatibility issue.
Get the latest version to be sure, we're on version 7 now
