Evo IX

Here in the states there is still controversy on when the Evo IX is coming out and what engine its going to have.. its rumored to be released in early '06...according to this months issue of motor trend magazine it will have the MIVEC equipped 4g63 engine..if thats the case is it going to have a slightly better torque curve..but is it gonna be that much better than the current 4g63 that they have been making for over 20 years??? whats goin to happen to all the aftermarket parts??

As far as i know we're expecting to see the first JDM imports in the next 3 months or so. As for offical CCC cars the last i heard is that Mitsubishi UK has quite a large stock of VIIIs that i expect they'd like to clear before launching the IX.

The spec does include a MIVEC head (intake CAM only i believe), but the rest of the engine is fundmentally the same tried and tested block, it's just evolved a bit more 8)

There are three specs available to the JDM, GSR, GT and RS. I don't know what we'll see here from CCC.

As for aftermarket products, the MIVEC head will offer new opportunites, but i'd imagine most of the current stuff will still work.

A bit of an additional info:

The magnesium turbo (fitted to the GT/RS as standard) is available as an option on the GSR for 900 pounds.

The MR turbo (fitted to the GSR as standard) is available as an option on the GT (not sure about RS, i think they said no) for 1400 pounds.

There are only 200 left to sell, if the projected time of Aug/Sept for the EVO IX is true then their actually may be a shortfall of Evo 8 MR's.
