NEWBIE QUESTIONS
Hi thought i'd introduce myself. Bought an Evo V last week after years of subaru's. What an eye opener!! engine is sweet as nut, revs like a rotary engine, roadholding/handling is second to none (and iv'e had a few modded cars!!) Hope you can set me straight on few things ?
ACY, I've noticed a small drip of oil from what i believe is the ayc control unit, any ideas on the reason and the cure? Why is the redline at 7K when the limiter doesn't come in untill nearly 8k? On slow normal road speed corners the rear axle sometimes makes a slight moaning noise is this normal? I've just put new pads in the front, (rears ok), had the belts changed, changed the oil (10/40 synthetic) is this ok?)) and oil filter, and put in a blitz panel air filter, anybody used this filter? plugs had only done 3 thou so i left them in. The car has done 31k miles and is in mint condition, I always used optimax in the Scoob is this best in the Evo? It'll soon want tyres, I was thinking of ToyoProxy t1s are they suitable? I wait for your replies in anticipation!! regards dave

WELCOME buddy, great choice you made there
Ok well the panel filter will be fine. Dont go over 6800 rpm in your evo and dont ram it down through the gears to much incase you over rev it incase you break the conrod bolts. that oil will be ok but next time id advise millars 5/50w it what most of the tarmac rally boys use. optimax is spot on and the fuel that we all use ![]() toyo's are fine as are yoko's or pirelli P7000's Not sure about AYC oil, can you see exactly where its coming from ? Nice mate!!
The AYC ECU should be changed for free as it was a Mitsubishi recall.. An AYC fluid change should cost you around £40.00.. Here is Mattty's thread on Tyres: http://www.lancer-evo.net/php/viewtopic.php?t=190 |

there are 2 parts to the AYC system. theres a part in the diff itself and the pump system which comes from the reservior to the AYC pump, then into the diff. if you have a leak from the rear drivers side then its prpbably a leak from the connections to the acy pump or smomething similar. or maybe even the reservoir overfilled.
if you have the AYC fluid changed in the diff then it should stop the 'squawking' noise. |
