Newbie here. HELLO!
Just thought id say hello.
I've joined coz im gonner get an evo 7 hopefully next year sometime as ive decided my gtir days are numbered. I love my gtir and its produced over 400bhp, so im no power or 4wd newbie, but ive decided that i want a newer/fresher car to modify. But i have big plans for it, like 800bhp worth of plans, so any advice would be great. But as i say, im getting one next year sometime and will have around the £16k mark to spend, so its looking like the evo 7. :? Im not well up on all the different specs yet so dont know which one to go for. Any advice? Bazza, ive spotted in another thread that your updating the buyers guide. I would be greatful if you could pm me or email me when you do this as im sure it will be worth a read before a buy me a new beast to play with. Cheers. James. |

Welcome aboard sweeny! :beerjug: I like your avatar :thumbsup!:
Your plan of charging an Evo 7 to 800hp is really a big plan n big $ as well. I bet Skyline GTR or GTT should be the ideal car for high HP :!: Evo should be good for around 500+hp and still able to drive on the street. The latest EVO 8 MR is race ready and good for mod. Watch out "Extreme" coming Evo MR  |

Welcome sweeny,
getting 800 hp from EVO is possible but :? alot alot of money, usually EVOs are perfect in 500HP level as -Evolution-R said. you can take it up to 600 Hp . but breaking the 800, is :? maybe a GTR or Supra would be a better selection if you think of boostin the EVO, then you need to consider stroking the Engine, getting a bigger turbo with fast spool up characteristic, pair of camshafts with ported & polished Head. Standalone ECU with a professional Tuner to Tune it on Dyno. Then you will be definitely breaking in the 500-600 depending on the Turbo selection. As you see it will cost money.

Hi mate,
Nice Avatar.. Evo V/VI diffs aren't as strong as the VII/VIII. Have you seen the specs for Norris Designs Evo V? I believe that had lots of diffs go. They now have an 800bhp+ Evo VII RS. That STILL blows diffs! As the other guys posted above, 500bhp is more than enough unless you are truly insane.. With more than 500bhp you will find it becomes as reliable as a Metro and it looses its driveability. Especially on the real twisty stuff..

hhmmm, you've all got me thinking now.
Maybe 600bhp then, keep it drivable .

yeah that is a little hardcore on the hp side, 500whp evo's spin all 4 tires in 2nd and even 3rd gears, and are not all that reliable, i would recommend maybe shooting for 350whp and getting a few suspension mods, and then learning how to drive it at a few track days! its not so much the power as the combination of all the great performing components that make the evo a great car! there is a shop in japan called bozzspeed that built an evo with 600hp, and then a year later detuned it to 400hp or so, and it was just as fast but not as prone to blowing itself up! reason is, on the small 2 liter motor, you need a monster sized turbo and insane boost to make 600hp, and it starts getting undriveable, whereas a proper sized turbo can still make way more than enough power, yet still be driveable under conditions other than a dedicated drag race.
just my .O2 cents -sage |

IMHO 350bhp is more than enough for B-Road blasting!!
