Teaching Friends to Drive

A friend has approached me for driving lessons. They can't afford a teacher, and really need to be driving.

But this makes me really uncomfortable. I am not the most perfect of drivers myself, and the idea of passing on my bad habits scares me.

Have you ever done this? How did it work out?

I had a friend who needed to learn how to drive too, and it didn't work out too well It seemed that she was often completely paranoid and out of her mind at the wheel. She'd break too fast behind a car that had to be 25 yards away, and I don't even want to mention how much she screamed when we drove through the inter-state. Never again, shall I play the teacher role for my friends.

A friend who had REALLY slighted and offended me asked me to teach her how to drive a manual transmission. I happily agreed. Took her to the steepest hill I knew of with a stop sign RIGHT at the top and still at a very sharp incline, and held my evil grin inside until she gave up completely crying. I'd do it all over again too. I'm just that darling! But I'd be worried about teaching someone I DIDN'T seriously dislike something wrong. So I think I'd suggest they find a more competent teacher at that point.

I taught a friend before. And she is eternally thankful for it!
It went well with us as I don't have problems teaching other people. I can freely share myself with people. And my friend, Kyla is a fast learner. In no sooner time, she's hitting the road on her own! :-)

Well we went out together for the first time today. It was actually not in the slightest bit painful for either of us-rather fun in fact. I won't take my friend to testing-before then real lessons will be picked up but hopefully this should make things cheaper across the board.

I really wouldn't mind at all but I wouldn't do it. I simply don't have the kind of patience or the softer skills to bear with mistakes that are a part of the learning process.

I can relate to this subject , I had a hard time learning to drive and put my instructor "my mum" through hell as it was a family learning process lol. Be careful as

these situations can become interesting.
