DVD Players & Light Inside The Car

Given that it is illegal to use a light inside the car because of the reflections on the windscreen causing problems for the driver-why is it ok to have DVD players in there? How does that work-they too would cause reflections on the windscreen because of the light, if only the light on the passengers faces.

So how do you get around that?

it is illegal to have a dvd player playing in the car where the driver can see it whilst the vehicle is in motion.
but i see where you are coming from as regards the light from them.

I've always heard that it was illegal for the driver to be able to see the movie. It is a really qood question though. The glare/reflection and stuff could pose a serious distraction risk for OTHER cars on the road. I know there have been times I've been captivated by the video in someone elses car!

Several reasons:

first, the lighting brought from the backlight is built backwards, and not outward, its made to brighten the video, not illuminate the area,

and since its not in your angle it cant reflect as easy

Also, its a very weak light, it seems strong when you use it, but in sense its just very weak back lgiht but bright, so short range bright light

The distraction however can be very significant and IMHO, at the very least, it should be mandated that they are strictly for back seat use. I guess that law just needs to be looked at again as technology has caught up with it.

backlights and screens are as distracting as the moon while you drive at night, they are deisgned to show pictures without emmitting light that can distract. distracting light is brigt, blaring and concentrated
