Winter Care

In the winter my father would always put a blanket over the engine of the car that lived outside. Without, frequently we would be left unable to start her.

Does anyone (whose car stays outside) take similar precautions? Is there anything I should be doing now that it's so cold?

Well a car cover or blanket will help you with any icing problems. The most important thing though is to give the car time to warm up before you have to drive her.

Personally I don't worry that much about icing on the car, I just start the car up 10 minutes before leaving so it's still a bit toasty inside

I've never really before had issues with my car and the cold, of course it doesnt get to cold over here.

Well, if you have a garage that's all sealed up, then you wouldn't worry about your car engine getting all icy and stuff. But yes, starting it up ahead long before you take the drive can help.

I never worried about icing up in the past in truth. And now, this car has remote start on it, so I can start the engine while I am still sipping the last of my coffee and then brush my teeth. By the time I am done the car is toasty warm and ready to go.

Yup, my car has problems in the cold. We have to pull it in to the garage in the winter or it won't start. I'd love to start it and let it sit for a few minutes to warm up, but the problem is it won't even start if it's too cold! lol Picky little bugger. I'm not sure if a blanket would do the trick or not.

You know I'd be really worried when doing this that part of the engine would be really hot and either melt a polyester blanket, or else catch fire or something. Not the way I want to keep my car warm!

I'd also not be sure that it would help much, especially if it was for more than a few hours or over night.
