Clutch and flywheel
Hello all...
I am not a new member... but for some reason after checking my old posts I was named "user1327" and I couldnt log in under any name. :???: Heres my original intro thread http://www.lancer-evo.net/community/...er=asc&start=0 Anyway, to my question With 28k on our Evo our clutch is starting to slide in 1st and occassionally 2nd gear. Hubby has been looking into a new clutch and flywheel to replace the stock one. We have come to find out that many people seem to have their stock clutch go around 22k. Can anybody confirm or deny this information? Any input? We are currently looking at the Clutchmaster single disk Kevlar (stage 2?) (FX200) clutch and a lightweight flywheel (ACT streetlight xact flywhee). Supposedly this will have better wear and last longer and also have good grip, but yet still be good for daily driving (aka....no jerkity jerk, smash your brain into your skull by simple shifting lmao). :muhaha: Now, I have had a few people try to tell me that by going with a lightweight clutch it makes the shifting harder?? It doesnt make sense to us so I figured I'd ask you guys. Is this correct? Ive also had them tell me to just stick with the regular flywheel and upgrade the clutch. Wouldnt this not work together as well though? The setup we are looking at adds 10-30hp.....so I am assuming that this would be the better combo then leaving the stock flywheel. Input would be MUCH appreciated. We mainly want a setup that will last longer then 22k and not kill us with daily driving as the car IS a daily driver. Thanks guys and gals 8) |

to the world of evolution, firstly the reason why your user name was changed was due to site crashing a few weeks all members id were set back to default all is well now :-) .Im going 2 get staight to the ponit if you want the car as a daily driver then I cant see the point in upgrading the clutch/fly wheel as there is no need unless u want the extra power. There are many up rated clutch/fly wheels on the market but they can be un easy 2 live with in traffic or a daily driver due some of the problems you have allready said, what u must remember is these kits are great on the track but not exactly brill when it comes to a daily driver. You can get fast road kits which would be more suitable & easy 2 live with as a daily drive. For any 4 wheel drive turbo performance car like the evo to get 22k miles on any clutch is brill. You say u want a kit that last over 22k miles, alot of this can depend on driving technique, riding the clutch in traffic, launching the car from a stand still & keeping the clutch pedal down in traffic when there is no need to do so.All this can put extra strain on the bearing, pressure plate etc. The standard clutch which I have is ace I have in my 6 no problems at all. |

agree with the above 22k aint bad on a clutch in these cars imho i have had a helix organic in mine now for about 8k and no signs of problems if i were to get an uprated clutch i would go for an rps clutch they are not much if any heavier than the one i have in at the moment and will take well over 400bhp
if i were using mine everyday i dont think i could live with a twin plate clutch

Most find this hard to believe especially as they know how quick i drive the car but my original clutch in my TME which ive had from new did 45k.I then replaced it with an AP Oganic and i swear by AP Products all day long. I am now currently using an RPS because of the recent enngine build |

45k??? Nice!!! :-)
See I just think being we dont drive like psychopaths and arent hard on the clutch it should last more then 24k. We bought the car with 4k on it so who knows how the kid before us drove it. But after replacing the brake pads all around at 20k and now the damn clutch is slipping at 28k  this thing is putting us in the hole big time LOL! So you guys say keep the stock flywheel?? Even though if paired with the clutch we're looking at it adds 10-30HP??? Which, in my line of thinking, says they work better together? Where are my buddy's Bazza and Maw?!?!?!? :woohoo: |

RPS organic all day long, 550lb/ft rating on a single plate organic, awsome.
Value for money is superb. Other than that, would be an RPS twin plate carbon carbon, rated to over 1000 lb/ft and comes with flywheel
