The Golden Compass?

I'm a reader more that a movie-goer, and I have to say that my favorite series would have to be His Dark Materials, aka A Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. I read those books religiously when I was younger, just because I liked the concept that human beings have animal representations of their spirits. Hell, I'd love a world like that, and wouldn't you have to wonder what your own animal would be?

Either ways though, I'm really disappointed in all this controversy thats surrounding it. I know that Philip Pullman, the author, is basically against organized religion, and it's true that he makes it rather clear of that in the book and the movie. At the same time though, if you think that a book or a movie is going to have a huge impact on your kid and make them change their whole way of thinking, then their belief wasn't too strong to begin with. It's like that whole Davinci Code deal when it came out as well.

I notice those anti-organized religion themes in the book, I get it too, but rather than bashing the heck out of the series, why not just consider what Pullman is saying, and simply choose for yourself whether you want to go along with that or not, instead of making it a public cry that these wonderful books are going to be the End for our children?

I just don't get it sometimes.
