what is the sample rate of the ECU? if the engine is reving to 8k, is that the crank or cam speed? to have a view at that I would imagine the ECU to be sampling at at lease 32khz.
I assume that the rest of the ECU componants are AD and DA convertors because I would of thought most inputs to the ECU are not digital.

32 is roughly correct and most sensors are analog, crank is obviously rpm, cam is half rpm speed evo 4 and latter have a crank and cam sensor but 1-3 have only a cam
